Should I Lose Weight for my Boudoir Shoot?

There are more important things to worry about before your boudoir shoot – like what you’re going to wear, getting your hair and nails done if you so choose, and what you’re going to caption your photos when you post them on Instagram. 😉 The last thing you need to worry about is your weight.

You did it; you officially booked your boudoir session! First and foremost, I’m so proud of you! Secondly, I know what you’re thinking – “Holy shit, I did it. Oh my god, how do I prepare? I need to start working out again. I need to lose at least twenty pounds! No more cake for me”.

Trust me; we’ve all been there, and I’m here to tell you that you should absolutely eat the cake, and no, you do not need to lose weight.

7 reasons why you do not need to lose weight before your boudoir session:

  1. You’re perfect as you are – no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
  2. There is nothing wrong with your weight or the way your body looks. Society is wrong.
  3. You should appreciate your body as it is right now. Your body has done so much for you; it has carried you through life and all its experiences, it protects your organs, it’s kept you safe, it’s allowed you to feel all the feels, and if you’re a mom, it’s produced a whole baby. Bodies are incredible; appreciate everything your body has done.
  4. You are more than just a body. Your looks are the least interesting thing about you. You have lived an entire lifetime that cannot be summed up by the way your body looks.
  5. You’re not even going to think about your weight at your session because you’re going to feel amazing.
  6. You’re going to have a blast regardless of how much you weigh.
  7. I know how to pose you and capture your best angles; your weight isn’t a factor.

Getting nude in front of a professional camera is scary. Most of the time, we live our lives trying to avoid every camera possible, so now we’re expected to show off our entire body in front of a camera that shows every bump and mark? Yep! But it’s not all that bad. Every client has a story to tell and the scars to go with it. We’re not all that different. Almost everyone has stretch marks, cellulite, bumps and indents, scars, unexplained markings, etc. The more we show images of these things, the more normalized they become because they’re normal. I know, what a concept.

Lastly, there are more important things to worry about before your boudoir shoot – like what you’re going to wear, getting your hair and nails done if you so choose, and what you’re going to caption your photos when you post them on Instagram. 😉 The last thing you need to worry about is your weight. Trust the process, trust the photographer, and do what you gotta do to feel your best, whatever that looks like, but DON’T worry about your weight.

And eat the cake.
